Richard Billingham

Richard billingham: rays a laugh and zoo

Compton verney warwickshire 1760, the building was transformed into an art gallery, the gallery mainly focuses on video work but allowed one photograph.

Ray's a laugh is a series of photographs and shows the living conditions of the poor, it was seen as a documentation of the modern changes and the effects of these on people's lifestyle. Martha Rosler criticises this work of billingham as she considers it as complete exploitation. 20 years later billingham released new pictures and they are different from the series of Ray's a laugh as they don't contain any human subjects. For example his untitled 13( Black Country Birmingham night time 2003).
